Kelly Doctor has the smarts to see all possible solutions, and the heart and practical intuition to reach the best ones for her clients. She’s driven to fight for the rights of people experiencing disadvantage and discrimination in the workplace and elsewhere in their lives. While she loves to litigate, she also works quietly behind the scenes to advise clients on how to handle difficult situations in the workplace and negotiate resolutions to them.

A former Supreme Court of Canada law clerk, Kelly never shirks complex legal questions and has applied her aptitude for research and creative thinking to advance the law for trailblazing clients. Kelly has represented clients at the Supreme Court of Canada and elsewhere in cases raising difficult constitutional problems or novel human rights issues.

Union clients turn to Kelly to help them fight to protect good jobs and the gains made through collective bargaining. She has worked with teachers, firefighters, hospital employees, public servants, construction workers, and other professionals on issues as diverse as job security, medical privacy, and disability benefits.  With both her union and individual clients, Kelly gives practical advice and focuses on finding solutions that meet her clients’ needs in a cost effective manner.

Kelly also works with Indigenous clients facing problems in their workplace, and on land claims litigation. As a person of Haudenosaunee ancestry, Kelly understands that there are particular cultural and legal issues that her Indigenous clients may face when interacting with the Canadian justice system.

Fluent in French, and with degrees in both common law and civil law from McGill University, Kelly was called to the Ontario Bar in 2008. In 2022, she was recognized by Best Lawyers as a leading practitioner in labour and employment law.

Outside of the office, Kelly loves to travel, run and listen to podcasts, sometimes all at the same time. In the summer you can find her cheering for the Blue Jays and in the winter she’s a feisty defenceman in a local women’s hockey league.
